We know that you want clarity, reliability, and peace of mind when it comes to spore syringes. That’s why we go the extra mile to ensure everything we send out is clean, reliable, and clearly explained. Below are answers to the most common questions about legality, quality, storage, and shipping. If there’s anything we haven’t covered, just get in touch. We’re always happy to help.
Ethics & Legality
Are magic mushroom spores legal in the UK?
Yes. Spores are completely legal to sell and possess in the UK because they do not contain any psychoactive compounds. However, germination and cultivation are illegal. At Om Spores, we operate strictly within UK law, we provide spores exclusively for microscopy and research purposes. We do not condone or support illegal activity and trust our customers to use our products responsibly.
Read more on our Understanding the Law Page.
What Does It Mean That You’re a Not-for-Profit?
Om Spores is a not-for-profit, which means all profits go straight back into supporting fungi-related research, community-led mycology projects, and other initiatives doing good in the world. When you order from us, you’re helping to fund work that explores how fungi can support science, sustainability, and well-being.
Are Your Spores Ethically Sourced?
Yes. We only work with trusted, reputable suppliers both in the UK and overseas. Every strain we offer is legally and ethically obtained.
Product Quality & Sourcing
Can you source specific strains?
We’ll do our best. If you’re looking for a particular strain we don’t currently stock, drop us a message. We can usually find what you’re after—either as a print or a syringe—through our network of global suppliers.
How do you validate the quality of your spores?
Every batch is inspected under a microscope here in our lab. We look for healthy spores with no signs of contamination before anything is made available for sale. It’s a hands-on approach that helps us maintain high standards. You can read more in our Quality Control Page
Do you guarantee sterility?
While we take extreme precautions to minimise contamination, achieving 100% sterility in spore syringes is scientifically impossible. Unlike liquid cultures, which can be cleaned through selective transfer, spores cannot legally be germinated to isolate and remove contaminants. Because spores exist in the natural environment, some microscopic contamination may always exist. However, our rigorous lab processes, including in-house microscopy checks, significantly reduce contamination risks. If you are dissatisfied with the quality of your spore sample, we will replace it, no questions asked.
Are your spores processed in-house?
Some of our spore syringes are carefully prepared on-site in our ISO rated professional-grade lab. Spores are suspended in sterilised, deionised, double-distilled water to ensure the highest purity and quality. These batches also undergo additional microscopy checks before being sold.
Storage & Usage
How should I store my spores?
Refrigeration (4-8°C) is ideal, but spores can also be kept in a dry, dark space at room temperature. Spore syringes are best used fresh but can remain viable for years when stored correctly.
How long do spores last?
We recommend using spores within 6 months for the best results, but they can remain viable for years if stored properly.
Should I be able to see spores in my syringe?
Not necessarily. Spores are microscopic, so in many cases, they are not visible to the naked eye. Some strains naturally clump together, making spores more visible, but others remain fully suspended and are invisible unless viewed under a microscope.
How can I tell if a spore syringe is contaminated?
Contamination is not always visible, but contaminated syringes may show cloudiness, floating particles, or unusual discolouration. If you notice any of these signs, do not use the syringe, and contact us if you have concerns. Please check out our comprehensive guide to contamination.
Support
Can I contact you for support?
You may contact us for microscopy support or support regarding your order status; we will be more than happy to help you. If you inform us that you are using spores for cultivation, your order will be cancelled, and you will be permanently banned from our site. We operate strictly within UK law and do not support illegal activity.
How can I contact you?
Reach out via email spores@omscientific.org.uk, and we will do our best to get back to you as soon as possible.
Ordering & Payment
What are your payment options?
Currently, we only accept bank transfers. Once your order is placed, you should follow the instructions to make payment. Once we have received your payment, you will receive an email confirmation, and we will process your order. If you do not receive this confirmation within 24 hours, please contact us.
Why do you only accept bank transfers?
Due to industry restrictions, payment processors and banks currently refuse to support businesses selling spores, even though they are legal in the UK. Bank transfer is currently the only reliable way to process payments.
Do you offer bulk discounts?
Yes, we offer bulk discounts on larger orders. Contact us for details.
